HOUSHUN

“Visiting Spring” 2021, The Prime Minister’s Prize, Not for sale
This work expresses the “life” of plants.
It is the life force of plants that wakes up from its long sleep during the cold winter, emerges from the soil in the spring, and grows toward the sky.
The world has been exhausted because of covid19, so I made this with the hope that the viewer’s feelings would become a little brighter and more cheerful. (H60cm)

植物の「いのち」を表現しました。寒い冬の間の長い眠りから目を覚まして、春になって、土の中から顔を出して空に向かって伸びて行く植物の生命力です。コロナ禍で世の中が疲弊してしまっていたので、見る人の気持ちが少しでも明るく元気になって欲しいと願いを込めて作りました。

This Kimono is the original for Kokeshi doll, and made in Kiryu, one of Japan’s leading textile producing areas. There are several types of Kimono. Kimono for the Kokeshi doll is same as the costumes that Japanese people wear in formal occasions. (H19.5cm)

“Cranes in the evening”
Two cranes are flying in the evening sky, a very Japanese image.
Both the cranes and the moon are carefully hand-carved with a carving knife.
The finished product is a very beautiful Kokeshi doll. (H19cm)

二羽の鶴が夕方の空を舞っていて、日本的なイメージです。鶴も月も一つ一つ丁寧に手彫りしています。仕上がりも非常に綺麗です。
